So many model boats you see these days are
disappointing: blocks of wood glued together and covered with paint. This is an incredible
model with no detail or expense spared. There are 10 one piece ribs which are laid on the
keel and gunwales just like the real thing. The stem is curved and also mounted correctly.
The boat is gaff rigged with a cotton sail and brass rings on the mast. An oil paint
soaked canvas has been stretched over the frame and attached, a process which was used by
several cultures. There are four brass oar locks and four long two piece oars. The rudder
is movable. All wood is stained and varnished: the only paint is a black boot stripe and a
thin stripe on the oars. The boat is large: just over two feet long and tall. This is a
magnificent piece worthy of any mantle!
